MAKHATELI BALLET BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM

BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM

Beginners are accepted into the Training Program between the ages of 7 and 13, and are placed according to their physical advancement. Our curriculum emphasizes the necessity of acquiring sound technique and having appropriate opportunities to perform. Beautiful, state of the art facilities provide a safe, congenial, nurturing and stimulating atmosphere for dancers to develop as dancers. Each dancer's progress is assessed on an ongoing basis, and evaluations are made in consultation with all instructors. A formal review of progress and a recommendation regarding advancement are given to dancers and parents at the beginning of each term. Mr. Makhateli also conducts 2 personal conferences every year with each individual family.

Recommendations for placement are based on a student's age, and technical and physical development. We know that a child's body often changes considerably over time, as does his or her attitude toward the progressively demanding and rigorous Vaganova curriculum. The most important transitions occur as a young dancer approaches the high-intermediate division when the dancer is required to attend more classes. Whether a dancer chooses to pursue a professional dance career or not, in any event, the achievements of self discipline, aesthetic appreciation and physical agility endure beyond formal ballet study and are of benefit in many areas of a dancer's life, well into adulthood.

BASIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Makhateli Ballet offers Vaganova method classes for younger dancers qualified for Basic. The Basic Level class is a one hour class offered up to 3 times each week, and is designed for dancers between the ages of 7 and 13, who have prior ballet experience. Placement classes are required and Basic dancers will also have the opportunity to dance in performances throughout the year.

INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Acceptance into the Intermediate Level of Makhateli Ballet Training Program is by audition and dependent upon the dancer's technique and development. Strength and flexibility are major criteria for acceptance, due to the rigors of the training at this level. Dancers are expected to participate in at least 10.5 and 12 hours of ballet instruction each week for the Intermediate Level, which includes a 1.5 hour master class with Mr. Makhateli. Dancers will also have the opportunity to dance in performances throughout the year.
